Foreigner-owned and certainly the place to go for a wild night out in Kaoshiung. They often host live bands and DJs, from Taiwan and abroad.
Brickyard has opened a new place in the Central Park (right next to MRT R9 station) called the Brickyard Beer Garden. Every Wednesday and Saturday there is live music ~ either bands or a singer with a guitar.

Built in 1914, the Hua Shan Creative Arts Center ( Hua Shan Creative Park) was once Taiwan's largest wine factory. Rediscovered by artists 1997, it is now ground zero for creativity, art, design and culture in Taipei. They will often have live bands playing outside for free. Legacy livehouse is also here.

The Sugar Factory is just 20km north of Taitung City in Dulan, a coastal village which is home to a number of Amis Aborigines and has hosted a number of festivals as well as many smaller shows. While it might be off the beaten path and will rarely host 'big name' artists, this place is well worth a visit for its friendly and relaxed vibe, and great coffee.

Right in the bustling student-rich area of Shida is Underworld, a basement venue that has seen more than 15 years of underground punk/metal/indie/funk and alternative bands. While the bands tend to finish before 11:30pm, Underworld resident DJs will carry the second wave of partying on until the early hours. Gigs are usually $100 weekdays and $300 on Fri/Sat.
